University of Iowa athletes charged in illegal sports betting investigation

A criminal case involving sports gambling has been filed against three University of Iowa student-athletes. In this most recent gambling scandal, a football player and a scholar were also implicated. The Iowa Criminal Division's gambling investigation resulted in charges against a total of seven student-athletes on Monday. One of them used his mother's name to get an account. The athlete, who was 20 at the time, allegedly placed 170 wagers worth a total of $4,400.
