US soccer betting falls flat at Copa America tournament

Not even the presence of Lionel Messi, the captain of Argentina and possibly the biggest sports star in the world, could have enticed bettors to try their luck. Even so, coverage of what ought to have been preventable off-field issues had to compete for attention with the action on the field.

When the 2026 FIFA World Cup is held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico and ends with a championship game on July 19 at MetLife Stadium, the betting industry at least gets a second chance.
