US sports betting rises by 23.6% amidst increase in gambling addiction

Sports betting has reached a record high among Americans, and at the same time, more and more people are seeking help for severe gambling addictions.

According to the American Gaming Association, sports betting in the US increased by 23.6 percent in 2024, with $147.9 billion wagered by Americans.

Over the past year, there have been significant increases in sports betting in a number of states. Illinois surpassed New Jersey as the second-highest sports betting revenue state, after New York, while Massachusetts saw a 40 percent increase in sports betting revenue.
