Vermont Democrats debit card used for illegal betting

A $925 fraudulent charge was made on the political committee debit card of the Vermont Democratic Party, which was a regrettable mishap. The money was later transferred to an account on the sports and fantasy gaming website FanDuel. It is rare that stolen money has been used for gambling, even though political fundraising committees are a popular target for criminals.

This episode brings attention to Vermont's gambling industry because it's unsettling that the criminal used a stolen card to successfully place a wager as their first action. After sports betting was made legal in Vermont in January, FanDuel and DraftKings dominated the state's American sports gambling market.
