Vermont lawmakers introduce bill to ban online sports betting

A state-wide ban on sports betting has been proposed by three members of the Vermont House. Only a year after regulated sports betting began operating in Vermont in January 2024, the bill would repeal the law that legally permitted the activity.

Between January and December 2024, wagerers in Vermont spent $198 million, while they won $17 million. Basketball, football, baseball, tennis, and soccer were the top five sports. The average wager was $22.83, and 8.7 million wagers were made, with 22% coming from out-of-staters and 78% from Vermont residents. Just less than the state's estimated $7 million in tax revenue, $6.3 million, was collected.

These type of events are much significant and they do happen after the authorities feel that they are not getting the desired revenue or the stakeholders are not able to run their services well with the policy and financial models
