Virginia Lottery retailers continue selling tickets following positive talks on skill game ban

Retailers for the Virginia Lottery who took part in a boycott of lottery ticket sales over the weekend have started selling tickets again, citing advancements in discussions over the recent skill game ban.

Retailers of the Virginia Lottery have halted their protest and started selling lottery tickets once more after receiving encouraging word from the governor of Virginia that a resolution regarding skill games will take place in the upcoming weeks.

A bill amending the existing laws governing skill game machines found in numerous convenience stores throughout the state was passed by Virginia legislators in October 2023. These amendments effectively outlawed skill games completely, imposing new regional restrictions on who could use them.

I feel Virginia Lottery retailers continue selling tickets, and there have been positive talks about finding a solution that will satisfy all parties involved. The Virginia General Assembly had passed legislation that would ban skill games in July, but the Governor has yet to sign it into law. As discussions continue, lottery retailers can continue to sell tickets as normal.
