Virginia skill game dispute heads to Conference committee

A legislative conference committee has been appointed to handle the legal dispute surrounding skill games in Virginia. There, lawmakers will try to find a solution regarding the controversial grey machines' operation within the commonwealth.

In an effort to help small businesses offset revenue losses during the pandemic, Virginia temporarily legalized skill games. The terminals are machines that resemble slots and let players compete for real money. However, unlike casino games, these machines require some skill. After that, the state declared the games unlawful as of July 1, 2021.
