Virginia state set to rename street near casino after lawmaker heavily involved in gambling approval

In honor of the state lawmaker who led the effort to legalize slot machines, table games, and sports betting in the commonwealth, local government officials in Virginia are renaming a street close to the city's casino.

Rivers Casino Portsmouth made history by being the first permanent casino to open in Virginia in January 2023. In its first year of operation, the $340 million property owned by Rush Street Gaming, based in Chicago, brought in almost a quarter of a billion dollars from players and over $15 million in local tax revenue for the city of Portsmouth.
