What about splitting 10s against a dealer's 5 or 4?

Should a card counter split 10s when the dealer shows a card of 5 or lower? Many experienced players say no because even though splitting improvements the mathematical odds, real game conditions make it not worthwhile enough.I personally don't split 10s against low dealers coz one 10 will likely win alone or still give me good chance with 20 if dealer busts. Your thoughts please?
