What are some examples of when fractional Kelly would be a better choice?

The full Kelly betting strategy recommends betting as big of a percentage of your bankroll as the perceived edge you have. But this can lead to overly large bets compared to your BR. I was wondering if some of you pro sports bettors have examples of when using a fractional Kelly of say 10% or 20% of the full Kelly amount works better in practice? I've heard of people doing this for sports they are less knowledgeable or experienced in, or for novelty bets they aren't 100% confident in. What say you guys?
