Position is extremely important in poker as it determines the order in which players act during a hand. Being in a later position, such as on the button, gives a player a significant advantage in the hand as they have more information on their opponents' holdings, and can make more informed decisions. Conversely, being in an earlier position, such as being first to act pre-flop, can be a significant disadvantage as players in later positions can put pressure on them with their bets, and they have less information to work with. As a general rule, the later your position in a hand, the wider range of hands you can profitably play, and the more aggressively you can play them. Understanding position and using it to your advantage is a critical part of playing winning poker.
