What distinguishes a straight from a flush in poker?
A straight and a flush are two separate hand combinations in poker, each with unique qualities:
Five identical cards in a row, regardless of suit, make up a straight. The suits of the cards are not need to be the same; they can be mixed. The cards 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 of any combination of suits, such as hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades, can be used to construct a straight, for instance. The Ace can be used to complete a straight as either the lowest card (A, 2, 3, 4, 5) or the highest card (10, J, Q, K, A).
