What does a one pair mean?

A one pair hand in poker consists of two cards with the same rank and three additional cards with a different rank from the pair. A hand containing two Jacks, a 9, a 7, and a 3 would be regarded as a one pair, for instance.

In poker, a one pair ranks just above a high card and below all other sets of cards, making it a rather poor hand. One pair is defeated by all higher-ranking hands in the majority of games, including Texas Hold'em and Omaha, including two pairs, three of a kind, a straight, a flush, a full house, four of a kind, and a straight flush.

To win with a One Pair, a player must depend on their opponent holding a hand that is less than a One Pair. It is also possible to win with a One Pair by bluffing your opponent into folding, especially if you believe they have a hand that is weaker than your One Pair.

Overall, a One Pair hand is not a strong hand in poker, and players should not rely on it to win consistently. It is always important to have a backup plan and a good understanding of the other players and the game itself.
