In poker, a "dead hand" refers to a hand that is no longer eligible to win the pot or participate in the ongoing game. There are several situations in which a hand may be declared dead:
Folded hand: When a player chooses to fold their hand by discarding their cards and no longer participating in the current hand, their hand is considered dead. They forfeit any chance of winning the pot.
Mucked hand: If a player accidentally exposes their cards, or intentionally discards them face-down without revealing them to other players, their hand is typically declared dead. The exposed or mucked cards are usually placed face down and out of play.
Foul hand: A hand can also be declared dead if a player violates the rules or engages in unfair play. This can include actions such as showing multiple hole cards, colluding with other players, or using prohibited devices or techniques. In such cases, the hand is immediately declared dead, and the player may face penalties or disciplinary actions.
