What is a gutshot?

A gutshot in poker is a type of straight draw, where the card required to complete your straight is one rank away from either end of the four-card sequence you hold. For example, if you hold 3-4-6-7, only a five will complete the straight. This type of draw is also commonly referred to as an inside straight draw, bellybuster draw, or an inside straight. The open-ended straight, which can be accomplished through the use of any two cards from the outside, is the opposite of this. Half as likely to connect as an open-ended straight is a gutshot

Due to the limited amount of outs, gutshots are typically thought to be harder to accomplish than open-ended straight draws. In order to decide whether to proceed with the draw, one must carefully weigh the pot odds, the size of the stacks, and the overall strength of their hand. They give lower odds of success.
