A rock in poker is a very tight, solid player who only plays premium hands. It can also refer to a bundle of chips, equal to twice the big blind , that serves as a mandatory straddle. When the rock is won in a pot, it is returned to the house, and not part of the pot. Good players are able to quickly identify and exploit the tendencies of a rock, as they are usually passive and tight. A rock can sit at a table orbit after orbit without playing for a pot. When he enters a pot, you know he's got the goods

A rock can be a challenging opponent to play against because they can be hard to extract value from and frequently have large hands that win pots. A smart player, however, can benefit from their tight image by bluffing them more frequently and stealing blinds and antes.
