An open-ended straight draw in poker is when you need one card on either end of your cards to complete a straight. Like holding an 8, 9, and 10 and needing either a 7 or Jack to make an open-ended straight. This gives you more chances to hit your straight on the next card, compared to having just one card you can catch to complete it. Open-enders are nice hands to have as they give you multiple feret to hit your straight and improve to a winning hand.

The word open-ender denotes a draw that is open on both sides, increasing the number of possible cards that could finish the straight. Open-enders provide higher odds and more opportunities than inside straight draws or gutshot straight draws, which call for one particular card in the center of the sequence.
