This is good to know. I have been fully confused by this concept for a long time, and you have elucidated it with consummate ease and then some. I am definitely going to try this in the next roulette game I play
 
An outside bet is one that is made on a collection of numbers or colours as opposed to a single number or a set of numbers. You effectively gamble that the ball will land on a specific set of numbers or traits when you place an outside bet.
