In poker, the table stakes rule is a regulation that requires a player to only bet the money they have on the table at the beginning of the hand. This means that players cannot add more money to the game while the hand is in progress. The purpose of the table stakes rule is to prevent a player from gaining an unfair advantage by bringing in additional money during the middle of a hand. In other words, players must make do with the chips they have on the table and cannot simply buy more in the middle of a hand to gain an advantage.
