Holidays and weekends are the toughest times to play poker, buddy. All the fish come crawling out of the woodwork, thinking they’re hot stuff with two pairs and a jack-high flush draw. The games get tighter, the pots get bigger, and the action slows to a crawl as every hand gets called three ways.
The regulars know to avoid the card rooms like the plague on holidays. We’ll be tucked away at some small game, smoking cigars and drinking whiskey, while the Christmas and Super Bowl crowds are losing their rent money in a game that’s not really theirs. holidays are for spending time with family, not getting clipped by sharps in the poker game. That’s my view, at least.
