Manchester City has lost two of their past three league games, and they come to Stamford Bridge with a losing record. They suffered a home defeat to Brentford in the last game before the World Cup break. When the season restarted, they defeated Leeds United 3-1 on the road, but they were only able to draw 1-1 with Everton at home the next weekend. Additionally, they defeated Liverpool 3-2 at home in the EFL Cup. In the Premier League, they cannot afford to lose any more ground, especially if Arsenal defeats Newcastle on January 3. If City wins this game, the distance between them and the leaders Arsenal will be just five points. Despite winning three of their last four away Premier League games, they have relinquished points in three of those games.
