In poker, the term "position" refers to a player's placement in respect to the dealer button. After each hand, the dealer button rotates counterclockwise around the table, and the person immediately to the left of the button is referred to as being "on the button." In the later positions are the players to the left of the button, and in the earlier places are the players to the right.
Position matters because it has an impact on the players' order of action during a hand. The ability to act after their opponents gives players in later positions an edge because it gives them more time to assess their opponents' hand strength before making a decision. This may enable them.
