My longest break from the felt was nearly a year. After a bad beat at Bellagio wiped me out, I needed to recalibrate. The losses piled up and I lost my edge. A pair of aces turned into matched twins against quad sixes. It took me that long away from the tables to realize I'd become a fish. Once my soul had healed and newfound discipline took hold, I returned a wiser player. The fire was rekindled, but with added tender care. A year off was the longest, but finest recess of my poker-playing career.
