To clear your head during a gambling timeout, here are some tips:

• Go for a walk. Get up and walk around the casino or step outside. Some physical activity and fresh air will help loosen you up and give you a new outlook.

• Grab a drink and snack. Head to the bar or cafe and enjoy a beverage and bite to eat. Relaxing with some food and drink away from the tables or machines will give your mind a chance to unwind.

• Read a magazine. If the casino has a lounge area, sit and flip through a magazine or book. Reading can be great for shifting your mind from gambling and passing the time calmly.

• Listen to some tunes. Put on your headphones and listen to some music. Whether mellow or upbeat, getting lost in the rhythm can help reset your mindset.

• Give yourself a time limit. Tell yourself you'll take off 30 or 60 minutes from gambling. Having an end in sight prevents you from staying on timeout too long or not long enough. If frustrated or losing after the break, it might just be time to call it a day.

• Avoid watching the action during your timeout. Don't pay attention to the tables or machines while you're on break. Out of sight of the action will help you regain perspective away from the temptation and excitement of the games. Your timeout will be more valuable the less focused you stay on gambling.
