I avoid the high-limit tables where I'll just lose money faster. The casinos can spot a "whale" from a mile away. I stick to the lower limits where I can nurse one drink or meal for hours. That way I'm occupying space and generating revenue for the casino without blowing too much of my roll.
I do some of my most productive "comp-fishing" at the C-list casino bars and restaurants. The staff there is eager to please to get a bigger tip. I'll joke around with the waitstaff and bartenders, careful not to anger them, but keeping things friendly. Midway through my second cocktail or app, they'll stop charging me.
Some people recommend "padding" your bets to even out the money, but that costs more. It's all about generating volume at lower limits. Leave before you get tempted into chasing losses at higher limits. The only real "action" here is getting those freebies! With some comps underway, I can save enough of my budget to cover gas getting to the next casino. Wisdom comes from experience, and if there's one thing I have experience with, it's getting my gambling money's worth!
