When a player stands on a hard 16 against the dealer, it eliminates the risk of busting on that hand and essentially ties the dealer. Since a hard 16 has a relatively low value, by standing the player neither gains an advantage nor gives one to the dealer. The dealer's advantage when the player stands on a hard 16 is essentially zero. The stand strategy ensures the player neither wins nor loses on that particular hand, outside of the effects of basic house edge. By standing, the player avoids giving the dealer any measurable advantage specific to that decision with the hard 16 cards. The strategy keeps things simple, quick and neutral in terms of advantage for that hand.
