In blackjack, an Ace can represent a value of 1 or 11, depending on the player's hand and the dealer's hand. The first Ace in the dealer's hand is always counted as 11, and subsequent Aces in the dealer's hand are counted as 1. However, in the player's hand, an Ace can be counted as either 1 or 11, whichever value works best for the player's hand. If counting an Ace as 11 would make the player's hand bust (go over 21), then the Ace must be counted as 1. If the player's hand is not in danger of busting, then the Ace can be counted as 11 to make the hand's total closer to 21.
