The 2023 men's handball world cup will get underway in Katowice on January 11th. The six-time world champion France will face the co-hosts from Poland, who many consider to be the dark horse in the competition. Eight groups of 32 teams will compete in the preliminary round. Each group's four teams will send three members on to the next stage. The top three teams from the complementary group will face off in the first round. The top two teams from each group will be the only ones to move on to the quarterfinals. Teams will compete in a knockout format for a spot in the final.
