Nah, poker and chess are two different animals altogether. Chess is a strategy game of planning moves in advance, trying to think three steps ahead of your opponent. Poker is different.

In poker, you only got the cards you're dealt in the moment. You can't plan out the whole game from the start. You make each play as the action unfolds, trying to get a read on your opponents and make the best play for your hand.

Strategy in poker comes from experience, intuition, and calculating odds in your head quickly. Chess players may have a logical mind for the game, but that don't necessarily translate to the felt and imperfection of a poker game.

The games share some similar concepts, like trying to get an advantage or "trap" your opponent, but the strategies themselves are worlds apart. So while a good mind for strategy and logic could help at either game, skills from one don't always transfer over to the other. Poker speaks its own language!
