Some casinos disallow mid-shoe entry as a security measure to discourage back counting and jumping into games by expert players, commonly known as advantage players (APs). By preventing them from joining a game after it has started, the casino hopes to limit APs' ability to track the count of cards and place large bets once the count becomes favorable. Casinos also use this rule as a way to slow down the game and offer fewer opportunities for players to make large bets. The no mid-shoe entry rule can be found at some of the higher limit tables in the casino
