Over the course of eighteen months, a woman defrauded an elderly man she was supposed to be taking care of out of thousands of pounds, a court heard. The perpetrator was hired by a company as a caregiver, and she was asked to look after a 79-year-old man who had just left the hospital. A care package was arranged because the man's son lived about 200 miles away.
It was later revealed to the court that the offender had a gambling addiction and had once racked up tens of thousands of pounds in debt.
