Alabama gaming deadlock occurs between senate and House of Delegates

During this year's legislative session, there were notable differences in the views of the Alabama Senate and House of Delegates regarding the state's approach to allowing new types of gambling.

Slot machines, table games, and sports betting were all proposed by the House for up to six commercial and four tribal casinos. A state-run lottery was also suggested to be established by the House bill.

The six-member panel's proposal supported three tribal casinos featuring table and slot machines. Only electronic gaming machines—no live dealer tables—would be permitted at up to seven racinos. Racinos and tribal casinos would both continue to exclude sports betting.
