Alabama pension fund administrator encourages legislators to approve gambling

Talks about allowing casinos to operate in the state capital, which had stalled earlier this year, are to resume in a special legislative session, according to the top official in charge of Alabama's pension fund.

Ever since voters in the state rejected a ballot initiative in 1999 that would have established a state-run lottery, lawmakers have worked to introduce new gaming initiatives to Alabama almost annually. There are still no commercial casinos, lotteries, racinos, sports books, or internet gaming in Alabama.
