Chuckchansi Casino Resort hit with protests over disenrolment

About 100 protesters demonstrated outside the Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino against the Picayune Rancheria of Chukchansi Indians, the property's owner.

The casino has turned away over half of its members since it opened in 2003. Some of the last native speakers of the tribal language are among them, as are those with proven ancestry and families descended from the tribe's founders.

The protest outside Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino raises significant concerns about the treatment of tribal members by the Picayune Rancheria of Chukchansi Indians. It's disheartening to see that over half of the tribe's members have been denied access to their own casino since its opening in 2003. This exclusion affects not only individuals with proven ancestry but also those who are among the last native speakers of the tribal language, highlighting a cultural loss. The protest underscores the need for greater transparency and inclusion within tribal governance to ensure that all members are represented and valued, fostering a sense of community and heritage.
