Coney Island residents raise strong opposition against casino development

This week, Coney Island locals protested against the proposal by holding a rally in opposition to the opening of a commercial casino resort in their seaside neighborhood of Brooklyn.

A grassroots group of locals opposed to casinos is called Coney Islanders Against a Casino. They don't buy the developers' arguments that a resort of this kind would revitalize the beach town during the summer.

Participants expressed worries about crime, traffic congestion, and addiction to gambling. Some voiced disagreements with the job and economic benefits that the casino group is promoting.
