Cyber Attack Halts Operations At Gateway Casinos In Ontario

On April 16, Gateway Casinos and Entertainment, a gaming and entertainment operator based in Burnaby, British Columbia, had to halt Casino Rama and other Ontario casinos due to a cyber attack.

Furthermore, the company has indeed confirmed that it “was a victim of a cyber attack.”

Attempt to restore the IT systems:

In a short statement from the company on Monday night, it said: “Casino Rama and other Gateway gaming sites will remain closed in the coming days as the company attempts to restore its IT systems.

“Over the weekend, we detected a cyber security incident and closed our operations in Ontario.

“We have retained third-party cyber professionals who are working 24/7 to help us restore the IT environment.”

Breach of personal data:

As for a personal data breach, it is still unclear if one has occurred, according to the company officials.

According to the release from the company: “Our upmost concern is the protection of personal data and information.

“At this point, we do not have any information indicating that this incident involves any compromise of personal data. However, we are in the process of notifying the relevant privacy officials and gaming regulator of the incident.

These types of disruptions can be trying but knowing the team is working around the clock to restore services as fast as possible helps maintain faith in the operation. With patience and teamwork, I'm confident normal activities will resume before guests realize a hiccup even occurred. Though inconvenient, this temporary setback won't deter from the top notch entertainment and experiences still to come at Gateway casinos. Everything will be back and better than before in no time!
