Full Nassau County legislature approves 42 year lease for Las Vegas Sands casino

When the legislature voted, it wasn't specifically taking Las Vegas Sands' proposed casino plan into account. To construct a casino resort, the company still needs state approval. On the other hand, obtaining further approvals requires the vote. Since last November, the coliseum property has been managed by Las Vegas Sands.

Prior approval for the lease was granted by the county's legislative rules committee and planning commission. The company will have control of the property for 42 years, but the lease requires the business to keep the coliseum open for two years.
