German casinos are posing a serious threat to the black market.

The DOCV, an organization representing Germany's online casino industry, has teamed up with the DSWV, a trade association for sports betting, to draw attention to the concerning developments in the online gambling market in Germany. The DOCV stressed the need for stronger measures to protect consumers who are being targeted by the black market.

This collaboration follows a study conducted by economist Günther Schnabl from the University of Leipzig, which assessed the effectiveness of Germany's Interstate Market in regulating and safeguarding online gambling activities. The study revealed that despite efforts by the federal states to guide players towards licensed platforms, around half of all online gambling in Germany still occurs in the illegal market.

As a result, the youth and player protection measures implemented by legal providers, such as limits, player bans, and support services, often prove to be ineffective. The study utilized data from Nielsen Media, a renowned market research panel in Germany, which tracked the online behaviors of around 25,000 German consumers and their interactions with over 700 gambling websites.
