Is gambling a cause of poverty?

I was having a discussion with one of my friends and I let him know that object poverty is one of the reason why some people are engaging in gambling. My friend on the other and he saying that gambling is the cause of poverty in the life of people and people should do away from it. we keep taking this argument front and back because we'll both have our reasons and we are ready to stick by it. I want to ask that is gambling a cause of poverty?

yeah definitely gambling might be some cause for proverty ,but it's true that there have been some people that have been poor from the onset and gambling is probably not the cause of the financial problem of the person I think tho

Definitely not everyone poverty comes from gambling. Even the poor gamblers were already poor before they stumble into gambling which to me might even leave them poorer. The thing is that some people are just lazy and that's it

Gambling can lead to poverty once this activity is conducted with rashness and irrationalities. Gamblers are liable to shed a huge outlay on wagers which could leave them in a very dire financial situation
