Kentucky's gambling age limit raises concern at the onset of sports betting launch

Kentucky became the biggest market to permit 18-year-olds to place bets when it opened for business last month.

Residents must be at least 21 years old in all states with the exception of five. But Kentucky only allows people to be 18 years old. Advocates for responsible gaming are concerned about the age restriction and the growth of the gambling industry.

A standard age limit for sports betting is not advised by the National Council on Problem Gambling. But the group is in favor of sports books that have a 21-year-old rule.

Sportsbooks and US schools ended many of their partnerships earlier this year due to concerns about responsible gaming.
