The Lakers have the drive and the bench at this point. They may not have had that advantage the previous season, but with so many options available, they shouldn't have to use their star players for more than 40 minutes. Additionally, the Lakers are using some motivational quotes that were essentially innocuous as a means of ratcheting up the tension in their rivalry. Denver doesn't really have anything to prove, so a loss in this first game with the banners up wouldn't come as a huge shock.
