Opposition to the establishment of Long Island Casino set to host town hall meeting

Opponents of the gambling plan continue to assert that a casino in the style of Las Vegas would cause numerous social ills to the Long Island community, despite Las Vegas Sands' plans to build an integrated casino resort at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale for $4 billion.


The state's 2013 commercial casino bill granted the coveted gaming privileges, but it also imposed a 10-year moratorium on the state issuing downstate concessions so that the four upstate properties could open without Long Island, Westchester, or New York City as competitors.
