Translator's gambling scandal could harm Resorts World NYC casino bid

The investigation into the former Los Angeles Dodgers superstar's illegal sports betting practices may be harmful to Genting's hopes of obtaining a casino license in New York City.

Malaysian origin Genting is the owner of Resorts World New York in Queens, a venue dedicated to slots that is vying for one of the three downstate casino licenses that Empire State regulators anticipate awarding in late 2025 or early 2026. A portion of the $16 million that the interpreter is accused of stealing from the baseball player was channeled through Resorts World Las Vegas, which is under the control of Genting.
