What are merged ranges?

In poker, merged ranges refer to a group of hands that contain a mix of strong, medium-strength, and weaker holdings. Instead of polarizing their range by only betting with the strongest and weakest hands, a player with a merged range will also bet with some medium-strength holdings. Merged ranges can be used as a bluffing strategy or to balance a player's overall range and prevent opponents from easily determining the strength of their hand based on their betting patterns. Merging can also refer to a bet made with a medium-strength hand on the river to confuse opponents into thinking that the player has a stronger hand.

A merged range is used to make it more difficult for opponents to determine a player's hand strength with accuracy. Players add an element of uncertainty and randomness to their ranges by including some lesser hands.
