What should I do if I have a pair of 5s?

When I get a pair of 5s as my starting cards, I am not sure what the best play should be. Should I fold right away because a pair of 5s is not a strong hand? Or should I open bet small and see what happens, hoping someone calls and I get a chance at a bigger pair or three of a kind? What do you experts recommend me do when I get a pair of 5s to start? Please share your suggestions.
