Here are some signs that a bluff raise could work at the poker table in about 80 words:
When your opponents seem tired, inattentive or distracted, they are less likely to call your raise if you make a large bet with weak cards. If they have not seen your previous hands, they may not realize you typically play tight or only bet with strong hands. If the pot has grown large enough that calling your raise represents a significant amount of their chips, opponents may be more likely to fold rather than risk that amount. And of course, if the board has not paired a card or hit one of your opponents' likely holding yet, your bluff raise has a higher chance of succeeding.
